Fall 2017 Capstone Colloquium Series - Communications & Funding at UNFPA

Join us this Wednesday, 27th September, when Eddie Wright will talk to us about the roles of Communication & Funding at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The talk will be held in the SPAA Building, CPS 309.

Eddie Wright is a communication specialist for youth and population issues at UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. In his role, he promotes the work UNFPA does in 150 countries and territories to enable young people to grow up safely, including its programmes to end child marriage and to empower adolescent girls. He also monitors coverage of UNFPA and its issues in the media, and runs its activities with goodwill ambassadors, one of whom is Ashley Judd.

Eddie has also received training to be able to work in humanitarian emergencies. In October 2016, he was deployed to Haiti in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, where his role was to draw the media's attention to the rights and needs of the women and girls affected by the hurricane.

Before working for UNFPA, Eddie was the Communications Manager for the European Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development in Brussels. This is a network of parliamentarians from across Europe committed to supporting sexual and reproductive health and rights. He had previously spent three years working in media relations for the European Union in Brussels and two years as an English teacher in Germany.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COLLOQUIUM FOR THIS WEEK (27 SEPTEMBER) WILL BE HELD IN THE SCHOOL OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS & ADMINISTRATION (SPAA) BUILDING, ROOM 309.
